President's House (University of Georgia)

The President's House, also known as the Benjamin H. Hill House, is a historic mansion built in 1856 in Athens, Georgia. It has served as the residence for the University of Georgia's president since its donation to the university in 1949. Originally constructed by John Thomas Grant, the house has a rich history involving notable figures like Benjamin Harvey Hill and James White. The property was restored in the early 1940s and features beautiful gardens designed by Hubert B. Owens. Recognized as one of the oldest buildings in Athens, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house has also functioned as an Alumni building and is currently slated for sale, making it a point of interest for both tourists and researchers exploring the university's heritage.
