Foster House (Union Springs, Alabama)

The Foster House, located in Union Springs, Alabama, is a remarkable example of Moorish Revival architecture, built by Dr. Sterling J. Foster over five years starting in 1854. This historic two-story wood-frame house features a distinctive two-story three-bay front porch with ornate ogee arches and a small balcony above the entrance. The interior retains much of its original Greek Revival trim, with a center hall flanked by rooms on both levels. A unique half-octagonal addition from 1896 accommodates bathrooms. The house remained in the Foster family until 1947 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in architectural history.
