Barnes Hospital, Cheadle

Barnes Hospital, located in Cheadle, Greater Manchester, is a former convalescent hospital renowned for its Victorian Gothic Revival architecture. Completed in 1875, the Grade II listed building sits on a green belt and features a striking clock tower. Originally established to provide care away from the industrial smog of Manchester, it served various purposes over its 115 years, including treating wounded soldiers during World War II. After its closure in 1999, the building fell into disrepair but has since been converted into residential flats as part of a new housing development. The site is notable not only for its architectural significance but also for its historical role in healthcare and its brief use as a refuge for displaced individuals.
