Gay Mont

Gay Mont, originally known as Rose Hill, is a historic house located in Port Royal, Virginia, built around 1790. The home was constructed by John Hipkins and later renamed by his grandson in honor of his wife, a descendant of Pocahontas. The house features a blend of architectural styles, including a central frame structure, brick wings, and unique octagonal rooms added in the 19th century. After a fire in 1959, the property was restored by the great-granddaughter of the original owner. It was donated to the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities in 1975 and is now undergoing renovations by new owners. Gay Mont is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, making it a notable site for tourists and researchers interested in American history and architecture.
