Bataan Memorial Building

The Bataan Memorial Building, located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is a historic site that served as the New Mexico Territorial Capitol from 1900 to 1912 and the State Capitol until 1966. Renamed in 1968 to honor over 800 New Mexicans who perished during World War II's Battle of Bataan and the Bataan Death March, the building features a memorial with an eternal flame. Originally designed in a neoclassical style, it underwent significant remodeling in the mid-20th century, adopting the Territorial Revival style while retaining some original architectural details. The building played a crucial role in New Mexico's statehood process, hosting the constitutional convention in 1910. It is now recognized on the New Mexico State Register of Cultural Properties and the National Register of Historic Places.
