Diego Rivera's Detroit Industry Murals

Diego Rivera painted the Detroit Industry frescoes in 1932–1933 on the walls of the Detroit Institute of Arts' Rivera Court. The cycle portrays workers, machines, and the automotive industry and is considered one of Rivera's major works in the United States. The murals were the subject of controversy at the time for their political content and inclusion of imagery interpreted as communist, and historical records document debates over their display and preservation.
