Breisach Gate

The Breisach Gate, or Breisacher Tor, is a historic city gateway in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, notable for its Baroque architecture designed by Vauban in 1677. It is the only surviving structure of the city's original fortifications and has a rich history, including its role as an emblematic entrance for Marie Antoinette on her wedding journey. The gate underwent significant changes in the 19th century, including the addition of a third floor, and was restored after World War II. Today, it houses a restaurant and seminar spaces for the University of Freiburg, making it a vibrant part of the city's cultural landscape.
