Helsinki Old Church

The Old Church of Helsinki, completed in 1826 and designed by Carl Ludvig Engel, is the oldest existing church in central Helsinki. Originally intended as a temporary structure due to the rapid population growth in the early 19th century, it features neoclassical architecture and houses significant furnishings, including a pulpit from the demolished Ulrika Eleonora Church. The church is set in Old Church Park, a recreational area that was once a cemetery, known for its historical significance, including the burial of plague victims and memorials for those who died in the Finnish Civil War.
