San Francisco Ferry Building

The San Francisco Ferry Building was completed in 1898 and designed in the Beaux-Arts style by architect A. Page Brown. Its 245-foot clock tower was modeled after the 12th-century Giralda bell tower in Seville and became a prominent city landmark when ferry traffic dominated Bay transportation. After declining with the rise of bridges and automobiles, the building underwent a major restoration and reopened as a marketplace in 2003 while retaining its historic facade. The Ferry Building historically served as the primary transportation hub for San Francisco Bay ferries.
