Archaeological investigations on the White House grounds

Professional archaeological fieldwork has been conducted on the White House grounds during multiple renovation and landscaping projects. Investigations have recovered 18th- and 19th-century material culture such as ceramics and glass, and have documented structural features including foundations, outbuilding remains, and privy deposits. These findings have been used to document the domestic and landscape history of the presidential residence.
