St. Elizabeths Hospital West Campus - Homeland Security's hidden headquarters

The West Campus of St. Elizabeths Hospital, a 19th-century federal psychiatric hospital site, became the consolidated headquarters for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security beginning in the 2010s. The historic hospital complex and its redevelopment are located in Southeast Washington away from the National Mall, making the federal campus less visible to typical visitors. The site includes preserved historic buildings and newer office construction on the larger St. Elizabeths campus.
