African Meeting House (Black Heritage Trail)

The African Meeting House at 46 Joy Street in Beacon Hill was built in 1806 and is the oldest surviving black church building in the United States. It served as a central meeting place for Boston's 19th-century African American community and for abolitionist activity. The building is preserved as a museum and is a key stop on the Boston African American National Historic Site and the Black Heritage Trail.
