Hobby Center for the Performing Arts (named for the Hobby family)

The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts is named for the Hobby family, notably William P. Hobby, who served as Governor of Texas and later became a prominent publisher and civic figure associated with Houston. The center opened in 2002 and is a primary venue for touring Broadway productions and regional theatrical presentations. Its two stages and public spaces were funded in part by local philanthropic contributions tied to the Hobby family name. The building forms part of Houston's downtown cultural corridor.
