The Portland Building (Michael Graves' Postmodern landmark)

Designed by architect Michael Graves and completed in 1982, the Portland Building is widely cited as one of the first major examples of Postmodern civic architecture in the United States. Its colorful ornamentation and reference to classical motifs contrasted sharply with the prevailing modernist aesthetic of the time. The building experienced long-standing issues related to its envelope and systems and underwent a major seismic and modernization renovation that was completed in 2018. It continues to house Portland municipal offices.
