Sunset Cliffs sandstone arches and sea caves

Sunset Cliffs Natural Park features layered sandstone cliffs and numerous sea caves, arches, and collapsed cliff sections formed by persistent Pacific wave erosion. The cliffs are part of the local Point Loma/Las Palmas coastal formations and are known for rapid coastal erosion and frequent rockfalls that alter the shoreline over time. City signage and seasonal closures warn visitors about unstable cliff edges and restrict access to hazardous areas.
