Southam Building

The Southam Building, a ten-storey Gothic Revival office tower in Calgary, Alberta, was constructed between 1912 and 1913 by the architectural firm Brown and Vallance. Originally serving as the headquarters for the Calgary Daily Herald, it was also known as the Herald Building and later became a Greyhound Bus terminal. The building featured unique architectural elements, including eight gargoyles designed by Royal Doulton, each representing a newspaper character. Although it was demolished in 1972, remnants of its gargoyles can still be seen in other locations in Calgary. The site has a rich history, having previously housed the First Baptist Church before being repurposed for the Southam Company.
