Seraya, Nazareth

The Seraya is a historical building in Nazareth, Israel, constructed around 1740 during the Ottoman era by Daher al-Umar, an Arab ruler. Originally a summer home, it served as a governmental headquarters and included a stable and jail. Notably, it housed a prayer room for the town's Muslim residents before the White Mosque was built in 1812. The building underwent renovations in 1857 and saw the addition of a Renaissance-style watchtower in the early 20th century. It functioned as the Nazareth Municipal Council's headquarters until 1991 and is now planned to be transformed into a museum, making it a potential point of interest for tourists and researchers alike.
