Casa de Estudillo - Ramona connection

Casa de Estudillo is an adobe house in Old Town San Diego built in 1827 and now interpreted as part of Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. The house has been long associated in local legend and tourism with Helen Hunt Jackson’s 1884 novel Ramona as an inspiration for scenes in the book. Historians and literary scholars debate the extent to which the Casa de Estudillo was a direct model for locations in the novel.
