Cleopatra's Needle (Central Park obelisk)

Cleopatra's Needle is an ancient Egyptian red granite obelisk erected on the west side of Central Park and set in place in New York in 1881. The roughly 3,500-year-old monument was presented to the United States by Egypt and transported and re-erected on the Manhattan site in the late 19th century. It is one of three famous 'Cleopatra's Needle' obelisks worldwide and remains a prominent ancient monument within the park.
