Powel House

The Powel House is an 18th-century Georgian townhouse built c. 1765 and was the Philadelphia residence of Samuel Powel, the last mayor of Philadelphia under British rule and the first mayor after independence. The house hosted prominent figures including George and Martha Washington and Benjamin Franklin, and retains original 18th-century woodwork and decorative finishes. It is preserved and interpreted as a museum illustrating elite urban life in Revolutionary-era Philadelphia.
