Girard College

Girard College was established through the 1831 will of philanthropist Stephen Girard to provide education for poor orphaned boys and developed into a boarding school on an expansive campus in Philadelphia. The campus includes a large, classical Founder's Hall and 19th-century grounds that reflect its historical mission and design. Girard College's establishment and campus architecture are widely cited in histories of 19th-century American philanthropy and education.
