Coastal defense ruins at Cabrillo National Monument

Cabrillo National Monument on Point Loma preserves remnants of Fort Rosecrans-era coastal defenses, including concrete battery sites, fire-control structures, and related military installations dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Several battery foundations and support structures survive as ruinous concrete remains or partially restored elements within the monument, illustrating San Diego’s historic harbor fortifications. The monument area also includes the restored Old Point Loma Lighthouse nearby, providing broader historical context.
