Crystal Palace (Montreal)

The Crystal Palace was an iconic exhibition hall in Montreal, built for the 1860 Industrial Exhibition, showcasing a variety of agricultural and industrial products from British North America. Designed by architect John William Hopkins, it featured a striking iron and glass structure inspired by London's Crystal Palace. In winter, it transformed into one of Canada's first indoor ice skating rinks, hosting McGill University students and the Montreal Crystals hockey club. After being relocated in 1878, the hall was tragically destroyed by fire in 1896, but its legacy continues to intrigue visitors and researchers interested in Montreal's rich history.
