Schomburg Center - Arturo Schomburg's Collection Foundation

The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture began with the personal collection of historian and bibliophile Arturo Alfonso Schomburg, who donated his holdings to the New York Public Library in the early 20th century. Schomburg's materials formed the nucleus of a major research collection documenting the histories and cultures of people of African descent worldwide. Today the center is an internationally recognized research library and cultural institution located in Harlem.
