Wave Organ (acoustic stone sculpture)

The Wave Organ is an acoustic sculpture at the end of a jetty in San Francisco that produces sound from the movement of the tides through pipes and chambers carved into stone. The installation was conceived by artist Peter Richards and constructed with the assistance of the Exploratorium; it opened to the public in 1986. Visitors report different sounds depending on tide level and wind, and the site is maintained as a public art feature on the waterfront.
