Exploratorium and founder Frank Oppenheimer

The Exploratorium was founded in 1969 by physicist Frank Oppenheimer as an interactive museum of science, art, and human perception. The institution opened at the Palace of Fine Arts before relocating in 2013 to Pier 15 on the Embarcadero, where it continues to display hands-on exhibits and educational programs.
