Oakland Plantation (Carvers, North Carolina)

Oakland Plantation is a historic house located in Carvers, North Carolina, overlooking the scenic Cape Fear River. Built over 200 years ago by General Thomas Brown, a notable figure from the American Revolutionary War, this plantation is one of the few surviving examples of its architectural period in the state. The house features bricks laid in Flemish bond, which were imported from England and transported by river. Recognized for its historical significance, Oakland Plantation was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, making it a fascinating site for both tourists and researchers interested in early American history and architecture.
