Pennsylvania Hospital - first hospital in the United States

Pennsylvania Hospital was founded in 1751 by Benjamin Franklin and Dr. Thomas Bond and is widely recognized as the first hospital in what would become the United States. It opened to provide medical care for the sick and poor of Philadelphia and has maintained continuous operation since its founding. The hospital played roles in early American medical education and public health developments.
