Yuma Building

The Yuma Building, located at 631 5th Avenue in San Diego's historic Gaslamp Quarter, is a significant 1882 structure built by Captain Alfred Henry Wilcox, a key figure in the city's early maritime and commercial development. Originally a single-story brick building, it was expanded to three stories by Wilcox's widow after his death. The building has served various purposes over the years, including housing a Japanese bazaar and medical offices, and was notably involved in the 1912 Stingaree District raids. In a historic move, it was acquired in 2024 by Ruth-Ann Thorn, the first Native American owner in the Gaslamp Quarter, adding to its rich cultural legacy.
