Chretien Point Plantation

Chretien Point Plantation is a historic pre-Civil War mansion located in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, on the banks of Bayou Bourbeaux. Built in 1835, this twelve-room red brick house was once a thriving cotton plantation that relied on the labor of over 500 enslaved individuals. The plantation is notable for its connection to the Civil War, having been the site of two battles, including the Battle of Buzzard's Prairie. The mansion is also linked to the infamous pirate Jean Lafitte, who was a tenant and friend of the plantation's owner, Felicité Chretien. Today, the plantation operates as a bed and breakfast and wedding venue, attracting visitors interested in its rich history and local folklore, which includes ghost stories and legends. Chretien Point was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
