National Atomic Testing Museum and atomic tourism

The National Atomic Testing Museum documents the history of nuclear testing at the Nevada Test Site and the social and cultural impact of the tests on Las Vegas. The museum is a Smithsonian Affiliate and includes artifacts, oral histories, and exhibits about atmospheric and underground testing. During the 1950s and early 1960s, residents and tourists in Las Vegas routinely watched atmospheric nuclear tests from hotel rooftops and viewing parties, a phenomenon the museum interprets and documents.
