Allen's Landing - founding site established by Augustus and John Allen

Augustus Chapman Allen and John Kirby Allen purchased and laid out the town site at the confluence of Buffalo Bayou and White Oak Bayou in 1836; that original port area is commemorated as Allen's Landing and is traditionally identified as the birthplace of Houston. The site marks where the Allen brothers promoted the new town and its access to navigation, which shaped Houston's early commercial development. Allen's Landing today is a downtown park and historical marker recognizing the Allens' foundational role.
