Specola di Lucca

The Specola di Lucca is a historic Neoclassic-style former astronomical observatory located near Lucca, Tuscany, Italy. Designed by architect Lorenzo Nottolini in the early 19th century, it was commissioned by Duchess Maria Luisa di Borbone. Although it was intended to be a hub for astronomical studies, the project was halted after the Duchess's death in 1824, and the planned observation tower was never constructed. The site, once directed by notable astronomers like Jean-Louis Pons, has since transitioned from a cafe to a private residence and is currently undergoing refurbishment, making it an intriguing stop for tourists and researchers interested in astronomy and architectural history.
