National Museum of the American Indian – George Gustav Heye Center

Located in the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House, the George Gustav Heye Center (part of the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian) holds extensive collections of Native American material culture and regularly exhibits objects and research related to the Lenape peoples who inhabited the New York region. The Heye Center opened in its Bowling Green building in 1994 and presents historical and contemporary Indigenous perspectives on the Americas. Its collections include artifacts, photographs, and archival materials documenting Indigenous presence in and around present-day New York City.
