Aviation Building (Fort Worth)

The Aviation Building, a striking Zigzag Moderne skyscraper in downtown Fort Worth, Texas, stood from 1930 until its demolition in 1978. Designed by Herman P. Koeppe, this 16-story tower was initially built to support the burgeoning aviation industry and later housed various insurance companies. Its unique architectural style featured Meso-American motifs, including Aztec sculptures at the entrance, reflecting the interests of its original owner, A.P. Barrett. Despite its historical significance, the building was demolished to make way for the Transwestern Building. A notable controversy surrounds the fate of the Aztec statues, which were removed prior to demolition but have since disappeared, leaving their current location a mystery.
