Yanaguana Garden (Payaya name for the springs)

Yanaguana Garden at Hemisfair Park is named after 'Yanaguana,' the name used by the Payaya people for the San Antonio River springs that were central to native settlement in the area. The garden and Hemisfair redevelopment include interpretive elements acknowledging the Payaya name and the indigenous presence at the spring site. Yanaguana Garden opened as part of Hemisfair’s post-2010 redevelopment and is intended in part to commemorate the deeper native history of the site. The garden is located near other historic mission-era sites associated with indigenous use of the springs.
