Hertlein and Schlatter Silk Trimmings Factory

The Hertlein and Schlatter Silk Trimmings Factory, located in the historic Mott Haven section of The Bronx, New York, is a significant architectural landmark built in 1887. This five-story brick building, which underwent expansions in 1892 and 1910-1911, originally served as a supplier of silk trimmings. A notable six-story extension was added between 1904 and 1905. After its original use, the factory was home to the Hygrade Casket Corporation until 1982. Following a period of vacancy, the building was restored for residential and commercial purposes between 1999 and 2000. It was recognized for its historical importance by being listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001, making it a point of interest for both tourists and researchers exploring the industrial history of New York City.
