Faneuil Hall

Opened in 1742 as a market and meeting hall funded by merchant Peter Faneuil, Faneuil Hall became a central public forum for debates leading up to the American Revolution. It acquired the nickname 'the Cradle of Liberty' for speeches delivered there by colonial leaders including Samuel Adams. The building is part of the Boston National Historical Park and the Freedom Trail.
