Outlands in the Eighty Acres

Outlands in the Eighty Acres, also known as Flanders Mansion, is a historic Tudor Revival house located in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. Designed by architect Henry Higby Gutterson, this 8,000-square-foot residence is notable for its innovative use of light grey interlocking precast concrete blocks. Built in the 1920s by Paul and Grace Flanders, it is one of the earliest architect-designed homes in the area and offers stunning views of the Carmel Mission and Point Lobos. The mansion is situated within the Mission Trail Nature Preserve and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. Today, it is part of a 34-acre preserve managed by the Flanders Foundation, which aims to maintain the estate and its surrounding natural beauty, making it a unique destination for both tourists and researchers interested in architectural history and conservation.
