Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium (RFK Stadium)

RFK Stadium, originally opened as D.C. Stadium in 1961 and renamed for Robert F. Kennedy in 1969, was a major multi-purpose sports venue in Northeast Washington. It served as the home stadium for the Washington Redskins (NFL) from 1961 to 1996 and for D.C. United (MLS) until 2017, and it hosted matches during the 1994 FIFA World Cup. The stadium's concrete bowl and mid-century modern design made it a distinctive example of large-scale urban sports architecture in the city.
