Founders of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)

The Museum of Modern Art was founded in New York City in 1929 by Abby Aldrich Rockefeller, Lillie P. Bliss, and Mary Quinn Sullivan to collect and exhibit modern art. Abby Aldrich Rockefeller in particular provided significant patronage and leadership in the museum's early development. MoMA's principal campus is located in Midtown Manhattan and has been expanded multiple times since its founding.
