On January 6, 2021, a mob entered and occupied parts of the U.S. Capitol during a joint session of Congress; the events produced millions of photos and videos that spread rapidly online. Amateur investigators and social-media users used those images and videos to identify many participants, and some crowdsourced leads were later used by law enforcement.
