Menger Hotel bar - Rough Riders recruitment site

The Menger Hotel, opened in 1859, contains a bar where Theodore Roosevelt and others recruited volunteers for the Rough Riders in 1898; this recruitment is documented in historical accounts of the Spanish–American War. The hotel's bar retains Victorian-era furnishings and historic fixtures that date to the late 19th century. The bar is located inside the hotel adjacent to the Alamo, which can make it easy to miss for visitors focused solely on outdoor landmarks.
