Oare House

Oare House is a stunning Grade I listed country house located in Oare, Wiltshire, England, originally built in 1740 for wine merchant Henry Deacon. The house underwent significant remodeling in the 1920s by architect Clough Williams-Ellis for Sir Geoffrey Fry, a notable political figure. The estate features beautifully landscaped gardens, which include a summerhouse also designed by Williams-Ellis, and are recognized as Grade II on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens. A modern addition to the property is the Oare Pavilion, completed in 2003 and notable for being the only British building designed by renowned architect I. M. Pei. The house has a rich history of hosting distinguished guests, particularly during its ownership by Sir Alick Downer, the Australian High Commissioner.
