E. L. Smith Roundhouse Granite Shed

The E.L. Smith Roundhouse Granite Shed, located in Barre, Vermont, is a unique historic structure built in 1889, notable for being the only surviving circular granite cutting shed in the United States. This sixteen-sided, two-story building features a low-pitch conical roof and was integral to the local granite industry, thanks to its innovative design that allowed for efficient stone processing. The shed is still in use today and showcases original features like a central rotating crane.
