Farkas Street Theatre

Farkas Street Theatre, established in 1821 in Kolozsvár (now Cluj-Napoca, Romania), was the first permanent theatre building in Hungary and a key player in the evolution of professional theatre and opera in the region. It served as an opera house from 1887 to 1896 and was one of the first three theatres built in Hungary prior to the National Theatre in Budapest, which opened in 1837. This historic venue marked a significant shift from traveling theatre companies to a more stable theatrical presence in Hungary.
