Phoenix Lights mass sighting of 1997

On March 13, 1997, thousands of residents in Phoenix and across central Arizona reported seeing a series of lights in the sky in what became known as the "Phoenix Lights." Witness accounts described a V-shaped formation and other configurations moving over the city, including areas near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Military explanations involving flares dropped during training have been offered, but the event remains debated and continues to be a prominent modern legend in the region.
