Lanneau-Norwood House

The Lanneau-Norwood House, also known as 'Alta Vista', is a historic late 19th-century mansion located in Greenville, South Carolina. An exemplary representation of Second Empire architecture, it is one of the few remaining Victorian-era homes in the area. Built around 1876 for textile entrepreneur Charles Henry Lanneau II, the house has a rich history, including its association with the last Civil War skirmish in South Carolina. After several reconstructions due to fires, it was sold to banker John Wilkins Norwood, who modernized it with plumbing and electricity. The property features a striking symmetrical façade, a Mansard roof, and beautifully landscaped gardens, making it a fascinating site for tourists and researchers interested in architectural history and the region's past.
