Garden Palace

The Garden Palace was a grand exhibition building in Sydney, Australia, constructed for the Sydney International Exhibition in 1879. Designed by James Barnet and built in just eight months, it featured a stunning dome and was inspired by London's Crystal Palace. The building housed various government departments and significant historical records until it was tragically destroyed by fire in 1882. Today, visitors can see the remnants of its sandstone gateposts and a sunken garden marking its former site in the Royal Botanic Gardens. Artifacts from the exhibition, including a prized concert piano, are preserved at the Powerhouse Museum.
