House of S. I. Elagin

The House of S. I. Elagin is a historic mansion located on Strastnoy Boulevard in Moscow, built in 1898 by architect A. A. Dranitsyn. This late-19th century Neo-Greek style building features an asymmetrical facade adorned with palmettes and lion masks. It has served various purposes over the years, including housing the editorial office of the magazine 'Ogonyok' in the 1920s, where notable figures like Vladimir Mayakovsky and Ilf and Petrov gathered. The mansion's garden once hosted a popular summer restaurant, which inspired a setting in Mikhail Bulgakov's 'Master and Margarita.' Today, it stands as a cultural heritage site, with plans for its regeneration sparking interest among tourists and researchers alike.
